A Lebanese all-female dance group of 36 women (named after the Arabic word for “lioness”) wowed the judges for the first time during their audition. They even earned Sofia Vergara’s Golden Buzzer.

Throughout the season, women continued to amaze the audience with each round with bewitching and intricate movements staged by their founder Nadim Cherfan.

“We want to show everyone with unity comes power,” they said during the Final.

Vergara was nearly left speechless. “There is nothing that I can say because you guys are the best thing,” she said. “This is so spectacular. Another level.”

Simon Cowell added, “I’m stating the obvious here; this was astonishing. And I’ll tell you something, something has happened with you where I’m beginning to feel a buzz beyond the show. This has landed, and it’s ‘gonna grow and it’s ‘gonna become global. It’s huge, I don’t think you can top that.”

The Mayyas’ goal was to not only share their culture with the world, but uplift and inspire others to follow their passion—regardless of obstacles.

“Unfortunately, being a dancer as a female Arab is not fully supported, yet,” they said during Auditions. “Us being here standing on the biggest stage of the world is our only chance to prove to the world what Arab women can do, the art that we can create, the fights we fight. We want to show the world that we are able to stand on our own feet as really strong and powerful women.”

Congrats to the Mayyas!
