About
Andrej-Marek Kaňa was born on July 17, 1990 in Novi Sad, Serbia. He grew up in Bački Petrovac.
He’s been involved in music since his early childhood together with his two siblings-his sisters Marina Kanjova is a renowned pianist and a piano teacher in Serbia. He attended the Josip Slavenski Music School in Novi Sad, where he graduated in the cross flute. While studying the flute he participated in several competitions and had been awarded first prize in flute in the Music competition Valjevo, Serbia. In 2005, he started studying the transverse flute at the Conservatory in Bratislava with Professor Mgr. art. Viktor Vavro. A year later, he started his parallel-dual studies at the Bratislava Music Conservatory enrolling in opera singing in the class of Mgr. art. Róbert Szűcs.
He graduated from the Bratislava Conservatory with the degree DiS. art. completing both of the courses which lasted for six years (4 years of secondary music education plus 2 years of higher music education). He also completed a two-year operetta specialization in the class of prof Mgr. art. Robert Szűcs. During his studies, he studied the main characters and performed in the performance of the opera “Orfeus“ by George Fridrich Händle and the operetta “Orfeus in the underworld“ by Jacques Offenbach, and he also performed with the Chamber Orchestra of Cappell Istropolitano in Primate’s Palace, Bratislava, participating in the project “Rising stars of the Bratislava Music Conservatory “ with arias and duets from Mozart’s works.
Since 2010, he has become a member of the Slovak Philharmonic Choir in Bratislava, Slovakia, where he has been working until today. In 2014, he was admitted to the Academy of Arts – Faculty of Performing Arts in Banská Bystrica, where he studied vocal interpretation, class Univ. Prof. Mgr art Eva Blahová.
During his vocal studies in 2016, he studied and premiered the character of Dulcamar from the opera “Drink of Love” by Gaetan Donizetti, with the orchestra of the State Opera Banská Bystrica. He also cooperated and performed with the State Chamber Orchestra Žilina, under the direction of the conductor doc. Mgr. art. Pavel Tužinský . He also participates in performances and recordings of the Lúčnica Choir, Bratislava. He also performs within the singing quintet Klapa Ravnica, which is presented mainly by the a-band by singing folk and modernized Croatian songs, and he also cooperates with the Echo Choir. He has also represented the House of Matica Slovenská in Bratislava several times as part of nationwide and international events of Matica Slovenská.
At the 1st International online competition “Capital vibe”- April 2022 Moscow -Prague, Andrej won 1st prize in the category of Vocal/Opera solo, and at the International competition “Paints of the Spanish sun”, Andrej also won 1st prize in category Vocal/Opera solo, 01 Jun 2022, Barcelona, Spain.
